Bullock's Oriole

It's a beautiful bird but a sad tale that created this photo opportunity.  A few Bullock's Orioles nest every year in a very bushy tree next door.  They are elusive birds and we see them infrequently.  However, this poor bird was chattering annoyingly around the house.  My first was that a cat had caught it's spouse or child.  When it landed on the cable outside the front window I grabbed my camera and quietly crept out the front door and snapped these two photos.  I then hurried down the stairs and found Audi, my sweet kitty, had cornered a female (grrr!).  I gently picked it up and noticed blood on it's wing.  I did not have much hope, but since her grip was good and she was conscious I placed her on a high out of the way tree branch to recuperate.  It was not to be, her wing was broken and she was eventually recaught by the two black cats next door.  There was nothing I could do.

  1. So sad indeed! But what beautiful pictures you were able to get of this really amazing bird. Thanks for sharing! BTW, your jewelry pics turned out great! I wore the little flower earrings that you fixed for me yesterday and got a few compliments - thanks for doing that! XOXO
